Two learning options this week to help support parents: a single talk this Thursday on teens, and a three-part series starts on Tuesdays for parents of “tweens and teens”.

Joani Geltman MSW, best-selling author of A Survival Guide To Parenting Teens, Talking To Your Kids About Sexting, Drinking Drugs, and Other Things That Freak You Out, has over 30 years of experience working with parents, children, schools and community groups.

Joani’s unique brand of “infotainment,” using humor, storytelling and sending parents home with a “goody bag” of helpful techniques will make this an informative and entertaining evening. Joani is a go-to media consultant for television, radio, and print. On and off-camera she provides the most up to date commentary on teen behavior and parenting strategies.

Jennifer Segal, MEd, has been a high school guidance counselor for the last 10 years. A graduate of Westborough High School and an active member of Congregation B’nai Shalom, she understands where our teens are coming from! As a counselor in the Boston Public Schools she has worked to mentor, advocate for and support thousands of high school students throughout her tenure.

She has an understanding of the teenage experience and the stress and pressure that your children face each day. She will help you to shift your perspective regarding the challenges teenagers face, teach you how to best support your child and also make you aware of serious warning signs to look out for. As the mom to two young children, she looks forward to the years ahead when they can challenge her!

Jill Smilow has been counseling high school juniors and seniors and their parents through the college process since 2006. Utilizing her listening and facilitation skills to help students and their parents understand the true meaning of “the right fit” has given her great joy and satisfaction over the years.

Jill is second generation Independent College Counselor, following her mother into the field nearly ten years ago. Jill is an Associate Member of the Independent Educational Consultant Association and counsels families throughout the greater Boston area. She currently serves as President of the METCO College Scholarship Fund of Lexington and has served on the Lexington High School Site Council for the past 4 years. She and husband Howard Brick are the proud parents of two college-aged young men, Jeremy and Eli.
