Summer Storms and Flooding Hit Westborough (Or is that "Wet-borough?!")

Storms batter Westborough

WESTBOROUGH - Two powerful rainstorms that rolled through the region Tuesday and Wednesday caused some of the worst flooding Westborough has seen in years, town officials said.
The storms, which occurred during the afternoon on both days, pelted the area with heavy rains and hail that had emergency response crews scrambling to come to people’s aid.
Captain Joseph Lawrence of the Westborough Fire Department said that Tuesday’s storm alone prompted 57 calls from around town, from residents dealing with waterlogged basements to motorists stranded on flooded roadways.
“I haven’t seen it this bad in 35 years,” he said. “I’ve never seen flooding like this.”
Though town officials have yet to put together firm numbers, Town Manager Jim Malloy, who surveyed the damage from Tuesday’s storm with Department of Public Works crews, said the cost to the town...
