Hi,

I was recently looking at my copy of The Diary of Rev. Ebenezer Parkman, of Westborough, Mass and got to thinking about past times there in my hometown (I'm now in Down East, Maine). I grew up on Cottage and South Streets, mostly South Street, and me and my siblings would play at the Midland Cemetery.
Well, back in the day there were rumors that a local boy had once opened one of the great doors to the earthen tombs over by the School Street side of the cemetery. He claimed to have seen skeletons in there.

Some years after that, me and a friend (I was ten at the time) were looking down into an opening in the top of one of the burial mounds and saw, in the crypt below, some human bones. These years later, being someone who is fascinated by New England's past, I find myself wondering WHOSE bones might I have been looking at? Would you know what Westborough residents were buried there in those tombs with the big old heavy doors?

Thanks for your time!

Best wishes,
Scott Thomas

Hi there,
My grandparents, Helen and Francis Ciannella owned The Gale Tavern. Shortly after my grandfather's death, the property was sold. Today I heard that the houses that were on the property were torn down. Does the historical society have any involvement in these decisions? Is there any way to find out what the plans are for this property? Are they at least going to name the street after The Gale Tavern? Myself and others in my family would like to know as we were against the selling of the property in the first place.
Sincerely,
Janine Garbacz

I was wondering if the open house hours have changed? I went to the house on May 31st (last Sunday of the month and at 2:10 pm). The door was locked and no one answered the knock nor was there a car around. If the hours have changed, can you please update it on your website?

thanks

I spoke with the author, Kristina Nilson Allen. The photographs used in the book were returned to their original owners. She was unable to recollect Carolyn Sagro, whom the parade picture is attributed to.

I did locate a "C. Sagro" phone listing in Lowell, MA; however when I called and asked for Carolyn Sagro, all that I could learn was that she had passed away.

I did learn that the picture of the J. S. Mason home at 19 Church St. is a contemporary photo. You may be able to reach Paula Skog, who is co-chair of the town's Historical Commission. You may be able to reach her at that municipal office.
