Local Student Musicians to Perform at Cello Festival on Saturday, May 29
The tenth annual concert of the Cello Festival Orchestra, featuring local student soloists, will take place on Saturday, May 29 in the Gibbons Middle School auditorium in Westborough at 7:00 PM.

The purpose of the event is to give local young cellists an opportunity to perform solo cello pieces accompanied by professionals and in a professional setting. Works by Vivaldi, St. Saens, Faure and Boccherini will be performed.
The musicians comprising the Festival Orchestra are all professional musicians including concertmaster Scott Knopf, violoncello continuo Cynthia Forbes and keyboardist Ian Watson, the featured keyboard player for the soundtracks of the films Amadeus and Mr. Holland’s Opus. The conductor, Paul Dulude, is the director of the Boston Virtuosi. The concert is free, but donations are encouraged.
Westborough has a strong strings program which begins students in third grade. Cello students from Westborough playing on the 29th include: Max Polich, Kevin Lai, Emily Brown, Andrew Hyde, Ayako Mikami, James Murray, Alex Arsenis and Jordan Hensley. James Hardy of Worcester is a student at St. John’s High School. Matt Flynn, a Westborough alum and current student at Boston University, will be performing also.
The performers are all students of Maryan McClelland Pietropaolo, who taught at the University of Lowell and Phillips Exeter Academy. She moved to Westborough in 1999 with her husband, Joseph Pietropaolo, a member of the Boston Symphony Orchestra viola section for 39 years.
The performance is sponsored by parents and local businesses and organizations, including EMSEAL Joint Systems, Ltd, New England Violins, Inc., Spectrum Music, Yoga with Carol, Melfa Wealth Management, Chase Realty Trust, Simple Enough Natural Foods, South Street Diner, Le Lyonnais Restaurant of Acton and Westborough.com.

Please Choose a Name for the New Park
UPDATE: The name "Veterans Freedom Park" has been chosen! As of the 8-June-2010 Selectmen's meeting.
Two names for the new Lee Property park in Westborough will be presented at the selectman's meeting on May 25 at 7:45 pm at Town Hall. The Lee Property Committee conducted a survey with 3 names, West View Park, Crossroads Park and Stonewall Park. West View Park received the majority of votes but we also had 2 write-in names that have now been nominated, Sunset Hill Park and Veterans Freedom Park. Sunset Hill Park was suggested as a write-in name from a neighbor of the park who lives on West Main Street. Her note stated that the property was once called Sunset Hill Farm. Another neighbor who is on the committee verifies that the sunsets are spectacular. The second name was a write-in suggestion by the Veterans Committee. It is supported by the Westborough Veterans Committee to honor all veterans in naming the park Veterans Freedom Park and to remind us all our freedom is ours in large part due to the veterans of our armed services.
The selectmen will vote on the names either at the meeting on Tuesday, May 25 or at the meeting on Tuesday, June 8.

Please Support the Boroughs Area JCC - Dine at Not Your Average Joe's TODAY
LAST DAY - May 25th 2010
I wanted to take a moment to thank all the parents, friends, and community members that have participated in the Not Your Average Joe's, Not Your Average Cause, promotion over the past two months. This promotion has been a great success and the community support has truly benefited the Boroughs JCC
TODAY - 5/25 is the last opportunity to support the Boroughs JCC through this promotion. So I am asking everyone to please dine out at Not Your Average Joe's at least one last time.
Print out the flyer below and bring it along or mention to your server that you are there for the Not Your Average Cause promotion to benefit the Boroughs JCC. This promotion is valid on lunch or dinner at the Westborough Not Your Average Joe's, today May 25th.
Obviously, as a member of the board at the Boroughs JCC I am proud to be part of this promotion and I am thankful for the support it brings to our organization. But equally as important, as a parent and community member in Westborough I am delighted to see Not Your Average Joe's supporting local organizations. I know my family and I will be there this evening and I hope to see many others as well.
Thanks

Transcript:Hi, I'm Lisa Rowe. Hi, I'm Ann-Britt Hoover, and we're co-presidents of the Westborough Garden Club.
I'm Beverly Linnane, chairman of the Downtown Beautification Committee. We're here at one end, one end of our community gardens -- the Gateway Garden. We have nineteen gardens that we take care of in Westborough, five of which are veteran's gardens.
We have people from our garden club that are assigned to each garden to take care of them through the year.
Two major fund-raisers throughout the year:
One of our major fund-raisers is the plant sale, which is coming up May 22nd at the Tufts Machine Lot. It goes from 9-12
It's a great annual event, with something for every kind of gardener. We'll have herbs and perennials, and a beautiful raffle table.
So, please come early, it's a great annual event.
We also have group outings to such events as the Boston Flower Show, the Beacon Hill Garden Tour, and Tower Hill, to name a few.
We're an active club with monthly meetings and programs, that are held at the Senior Center, on the last Wednesday of each month.
Come join us! ...for friendship, knowledge, and fun!
