Come see the BoroughTones! Summer Jamboree 09 Fri July 31
Ten alumni of Westborough High School assembled this summer as "The BoroughTones" - the premier a cappella group in Westborough! Bringing their talents and experiences from a hugely varied background of collegiate a cappella, and sharing their history in WHS's male a cappella group "Members Only," the guys have been singing around the community all summer at various open mics and whatever venues they can find. From Disney to motown to Ben Folds to The Beatles, the guys sing it all!

Westborough Community Band Making Music July 31
The Westborough Community Band made their debut at the Westborough July 4th Block Party to rave reviews. The forty plus members from various towns sounded great playing patriotic songs for the audience. Led by Matthew Lefebvre, Westborough High School band teacher, it has become a reality in a short period of time.
The band is hard at work and ready for their second performance this summer. The concert will be held on Friday, July 31st from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Hastings School on East Main Street. The concert will be held outdoors on the grass for all to enjoy. The public is invited to grab a chair or blanket, bring a snack or supper and enjoy the sounds of summer.
Music to be performed will include the American Songbook and patriotic tunes.
The Board of Directors for the community band include Kathy Cincotta, Judith Wilchynski, Steve Masciarelli, Donna Kelly, Matt Lefebvre and Steve Hilton. The board is already planning concerts and venues for the summer of 2010. The musicians are students in grades 7 to 12 and adults of all ages. It is open to any musician willing to practice, enjoy the camaraderie of fellow musicians and ready to entertain. For information contact Kathy Cincotta at kathy_cincotta@charter.net

Banning Dogs from the Park is Not the Answer
[Received the following comment on the site today, and thought it deserved more prominent exposure. Please feel free to add your comments -- Webmaster]
Parkview on the Common and dogs
It's been brought to my attention that the potential to ban dogs from Parkview on the Commoon, specifically the Park on Union Street is under consideration. I live in the condos facing the Park.
This makes me sad as a dog owner because I can tell you that the majority of us, do pick up after our dogs and I can also tell you who doesn't. Those that drive up from surrounding towns and are frequenting the restaurants in the area, love to park, eat, leave their dogs in the car and then walk their dogs w/o picking up. Those that daily frequent the park, also pick up after those that didn't because we don't want ourselves to be subject to this.
Let me also describe the bigger part of the issue in this park - first hand - I pick up after the kids. Yes, the kids that come and leave their food trash, their papers and their dead, soupy, sticky icecream sticks and their starbucks coffees, etc. We take a garbage bag and walk this property. So before anyone bans dogs from park that is truly enjoyed by many, please review the real issue of trash and critters associated with sandwiches left behind and bottles of all sorts. We love this park and so do those that don't have dogs who's lives are enriched by a critter that wags his tail at them and puts a smile on their stressed out lives. Let's come up with a solution not a slammed door. Thank you.

Biking on Downtown Sidewalks - do the Selectmen care?
[Received the following from Phil the Barber on 14-July. Comments? -- Webmaster]
After years of minor accidents in front of my barbershop downtown, a small child got hit by a bicycle. While not seriously injured, it may be a wakeup call for the selectmen to monitor the law of not riding bikes, skateboards etc. on downtown sidewalks.
I have also been winged by a bike, and just last week, I almost got hit again coming out of my shop. Yes, I do look when I come out, but the bikes are going so fast, it sometimes is hard to react. Signs placed in locations in town just do not work. Closer monitoring by the Police Dept. needs to be enacted.
My point to this note is, there would be a major lawsuit against the town if someone were to get hit seriously enough. Thank goodness it has not happened yet.
