Superintendent's Search

The Westborough School Committee is looking for input regarding the replacement for School Superintendent Anne Towle, who will retire on June 30, 2010. We would like to involve the entire Westborough community, including school staff, parents, residents, town officials and students, in this search process.

To begin with, we are asking for feedback and input on the needs of our district and what criteria and overall characteristics people think are important for our next superintendent to possess. To assist us in gathering that information, please complete the confidential survey at: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=Z5ttHTLJg3vAvzEOENeOvg_3d_3d . The responses to the survey are being collected directly by the School Committee, not via the schools or administration.

At a future time, we will also have public forums at which stakeholders will have the opportunity to meet with and ask questions of the candidate(s). Information on these forums and any additional details on the search process will be communicated at our School Committee meetings, by e-mail and/or through the district website.

We appreciate you taking the time to provide your feedback.

President Obama's Speech
School principals have been contacted by some parents who have expressed their concerns about President Obama’s national scheduled address to students on Tuesday, September 8th. The Westborough Public Schools will be taping the President’s message for possible future viewing. The summary released by the US Department of Education states that the special address will be about persisting and succeeding in school. School principals and teachers will view the video and decide the educational appropriateness of the message for different schools, subjects, and classrooms. Principals may very well decide not to show the video and leave the decision of watching it up to individual parents/families. Please know that if any parent objects to the video being viewed by their child, please contact the building principal.
Some parents have said that they would prefer to watch the address at home with their children. Therefore, we have made special arrangements with Westborough's Local Cable Access Station to broadcast the President's Back-to-School message on Tuesday evening, September 8th on Charter's Channel 13 and Verizon's Channel 26 at 6PM, 7PM, and 8PM.
To listen to the above message, you will need audio software and speakers on your computer.

Washington Trip

This is Westborough Superintendent Dr. Anne Towle

I have received a message from Principal David Fredette who is on the Washington trip with eighth grade students. He asked me to let you know that because of this morning's shooting at the Holocaust Museum they are eliminating this afternoon's visit to the museum. The students were not at the museum when the shooting occurred but were scheduled to be there two hours later.

Dr. Fredette reports that the trip is going very well and that the weather is humid.

Thank you and goodbye.

H1N1 Flu
Good Evening, this is Superintendent of Schools Anne Towle.
As you are probably aware there are increasing numbers of cases of the H1N1 flu affecting people in Massachusetts. I am calling tonight to inform you that Westborough does have two positive cases of influenza A virus but these are not confirmed cases of the swine flu. One student is enrolled at the Armstrong School and the other at the Gibbons School. We'd like to remind parents that there are steps every parent can take to lower their children’s chances of getting sick. Families are encouraged to treat any type of flu with the same precautions and to follow good hygiene practices at all times. For more information please refer to the school district's website.
If your child will be absent from school, we ask parents / guardians to please inform us of their symptoms so we may tract this illness.
Thank you and good night.
