The Little Yellow Sled

It was 1998 and I was three years-old at the time. My family, my friend Emma, and her family decided to go ice skating. The adults decided that we were going to the Mill Pond to skate. When we arrived there everyone, except Emma’s brother; Jack; and myself, got their ice skates on. Jack and I got in my little yellow sled, ready to be pulled from behind.
When we reached the frozen pond, I stuck my hand out to feel the cool touch of the ice on my hand. The air around me had a scent of a burning fire and fresh pine; at least that’s how I remember it! I remember looking out onto the open sheet of ice, watching friends and family skate around me. Hearing the sound of laughter when someone fell always made me giggle. I also remember the sound of my little yellow sled swerving across the ice from side to side. Whenever we took a break, we all had hot chocolate. I never failed to burn my tongue with that first sip. The feel of the snow on my tongue, after I burned it, was relieving. We would stay for an hour or two; or until we got cold.
We left the pond and went back to Emma’s house. When we got back to Emma’s house, her dad would start a fire. We would sit around the fireplace with hot chocolate and “magic” soup in front of us. “Magic” soup is a soup that Emma’s mom would make whenever I was over during the winter. “Magic” soup always made us feel better. Jack, Emma, and I would burn our tongues every few seconds; not thinking that the soup would not cool down by the time we took our next spoonful.
If we were outside skating; or sledding; or inside around the fire we always had a great time together!
Intro to Showcase
What's this "Showcase" section about?
When taking over the site, one of the ideas that occurred to me was to have a place to celebrate the arts, and share works created by residents -- and especially works by students.
Until we get the message out a bit more widely and receive submissions directly, here are some pictures that are currently being shared on WestboroughTV's Education Channel in their "bulletin" stream. Please visit WestboroughTV for more information. Thanks!
Please note, the Education channels are Charter channel 13, and Verizon channel 24.
If the images below fail to appear, please send us a note using the Contact Us link at the bottom of the page.
[UPDATE 1-May-2009 -- the three images originally linked to by this article are no longer available from the WestboroughTV bulletin stream. We will preseve local copies in the future to prevent this from occurring - Webmaster.]
